Event Description:
Middle Smithfield Township is committed to preserving our history, so who better to honor than the very people who created and lived our history? Our long-time residents offer invaluable insight about our township from years ago to the present and we want to celebrate each one of you! As Monroe County, the State of Pennsylvania, and the nation gear up to celebrate America250, we decided to join the fun! The theme for this year’s Memory Makers Luncheon in America250! As a long time resident, you experienced the bi-centennial celebration in the Poconos, and we want to hear all about it! We are very interested in collecting your stories, photos, newspaper clippings, and documents from the 1996 Bicentennial Celebrations. If you participated in or have memorabilia from the Bicentennial, we would love for you to bring it along on August 9th. We will have staff on hand to scan and archive your items on the spot—so you’ll go home with your keepsakes, and the township will gain valuable contributions to our historical collection. This year’s presentation will be by resident and local historian Danny Younger, who will speak about the history of Middle Smithfield Township and how it relates to the history of our nation. He will also discuss the historical significance of Fort Hyndshaw, a fort built right here in Middle Smithfield Township in 1856 during the French and Indian War. We hope to see you this year!
